“Life is not sad. It has sad hours.” Romain Rolland
Sadness is a feeling that any one of us has ever felt. It is part of basic human emotions like happiness or fear.
Sometimes, an argument with a person you like, a disappointment, an unresolved issue or the loss of someone you care about are some of the reasons for the sadness to appear. However, this sadness can also occur for no apparent reason after feeling a certain smell or flavour that makes our unconscious feel homesick for something that even we don’t know.
A recent study revealed that sadness is the longest-lasting emotion because we tend to rethink the events that led us to that emotion.
It’s essential to listen to your body and understand what the sadness you’re feeling really means. Is it temporary, or do we feel it for a while? And how does it affect our daily lives?
It is normal to stop being sad and resilient to move forward without anything affecting us. However, we have to understand that sadness is a process that has its own time and that it is not always possible for us to overcome the situation that led us to it immediately. Therefore, it is crucial to respect each process’s time, be kind to ourselves, and not compare ourselves with others who seem to go through things easily. Still, it is important to understand that each individual has his own process and his own times. We never know what goes on in each other’s hearts. However, there is always a reason for us to have this emotional state.
Sadness indicates that we need something, that we need to live a specific experience to see or understand a specific situation more deeply.
There is no problem in feeling sad, in experiencing this emotion for short periods. It’s part of our condition to be human and to be healthy. When this emotional state becomes our natural state, that is a problem and it is a warning sign to take into account.
When sadness tends to remain in us, and we begin to experience only negative thoughts, when it makes us feel indifferent to everything, it can mean that we are entering a state considered depressive. Hence the importance of being attentive and seeking help from a specialist or therapist.
We then share tips so that you can overcome this emotional state more harmoniously:
- Accept that sadness is a transient process and that any emotional wound must take its time to be overcome. Hiding the sadness does not make us strong, but it does lead to a more prolonged and more painful process. Talk to a friend or a friend about what you’re feeling;
- Getting to know yourself better and understanding your feelings helps to overcome the situation more consciously, and consciousness is everything;
- Feeding positive thoughts, accepting our failures and not allowing nonconstructive criticism to destroy us and diminish our self-esteem;
- The practice of physical exercise, as a simple walk, is an excellent way to move the energy that gets blocked in our physical and energetic body. Additionally, bringing the daily practice of meditation and conscious breathing to our day to day makes all the difference. It only takes a few minutes for you to feel the difference;
- Some foods have antidepressant properties like fatty acids, some vitamins and minerals help the nervous system to be healthier, and because we are the sum of many things, it will help your emotional balance;
- Live more, party more and talk to those who make you feel good. Don’t shut down or isolate yourself. Having someone you feel comfortable talking to makes all the difference;
- Dedicating ourselves to a project with a concrete goal and in an area we like can be important because living on goals makes our soul feel alive;
- Sometimes, in the busy world, we end up not looking very much at the nature that lives well on our side. Promoting moments when we can be more in touch with it is an important catalyst that takes us back to our essence that is more balanced without a shadow of a doubt.
