How Cannabis Help Pain

Canabis and pain

As unpleasant as it is, pain serves an essential purpose. It tries to protect us from further damaging a part of our body.

There are, in fact, two distinct types of pain, fast pain and slow pain. Fast pain is also referred to as acute pain and is the type of pain that results, for example, from cutting a knife into the skin or sticking it from a needle. Slow pain is also known as chronic pain, and the level of this type of pain can be very intense.

Endocannabinoids are synthesized and act locally in an area where there is a tissue injury, helping to send signals to the brain, pointing out that in that area, there is something wrong. The endocannabinoid system monitors the situation and the tissue. If the affected tissue is healing well and its injury diminishes, the endocannabinoid system adjusts its endocannabinoid production, stopping sending pain signals to the brain. We know that by increasing the activation of CB1 and CB2 receptors, there is a decrease in pain signalling messages.

Clinical trials regarding pain in arthritis, multiple sclerosis and chronic pain have shown that cannabis reduces about 40% of the pain levels.

CBD has been tested on many occasions in its pain relief actions. Topical applications in arthritic joints over a few days demonstrated that inflammation and pain reduced. Similar results were observed when CBD oil is ingested.

Thus, CBD oil allows for correcting an endocannabinoid deficiency and activating cannabinoid receptors to reduce pain signalling messages to the brain.

Arthritis

Cannabis use in arthritis is ancient, with Chinese writings showing that it was used thousands of years ago to treat this problem.

Cannabinoids are helpful for all forms of arthritis, being analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Particularly in cases of rheumatoid arthritis, the anti-inflammatory nature of cannabis and cannabinoids can be beneficial. Joint inflammation will not only reduce pain, but also help prevent further damage to the joint.

CBD oil can also be used externally. It works particularly well if you heat the affected joint first by massaging it, applying heat in the form of a compress or a hot water bag.

When using CBD oil for arthritis, the first sign is improved mobility of the affected joint.

Fibromyalgia

We are not sure what causes fibromyalgia. Although many studies mention the hypotheses of a neurochemical imbalance, including a lack of endocannabinoids and a pain processing problem. Some people may associate the origin of fibromyalgia with a specific event, a typical operation, illness, injury, pregnancy, grief or the end of a relationship.

It is often an exhaustive and physically debilitating condition characterized by pain throughout the body. There are frequently localized areas of pain where CBD oils or creams can be applied to these areas for on-spot treatment. Following this pain, there may also be fatigue (mild to extreme), muscle rigidity, increased pain sensitivity, reduced concentration and poor memory, headaches, insomnia and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is much more common in women ( from 7 to 1) than in men.

Studies of cannabis users with fibromyalgia concluded that they feel less pain, less stiffness, less insomnia and more relaxation.

Migraines and Headaches

Cannabis is not the only plant that has gained a reputation for treating headaches and migraines. The feverfew herb has become well known but is usually misused to the extent that it is not taken most effectively. Feverfew only becomes effective when it is used as a prevention. It is no use taking it when the headache has already started. To some extent, cannabis and cannabinoids are in the same situation, working better when used as prophylactic treatment.
